Saturday Senior Day Honors Hoops Heroes

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University men's and women's basketball teams will honor its seniors Saturday when the Bucs host Saint Leo in the regular season finale.

Barry's women tip off at 2 p.m. in Health & Sports Center. Forwards Glaucia Lehn and Yvonne Houston, centers Alex Zamora and Tasheema Lewis, and guards Jen Mitchell, Shanna Suttington and Danielle DeBerry will play their final regular season home game.

The Buccaneers (17-8, 11-4 Sunshine State Conference) will host a first round league tournament game Wednesday night at HSC.

Barry can earn a share of the Sunshine State Conference title with a win over the Lions (7-18, 1-14). The Buccaneers are also playing for consideration in the NCAA Tournament. The top eight teams in each region qualify for the national tournament. Barry sits in eighth place currently, but beat South Region No. 1 Rollins on Wednesday.

Houston leads the Buccaneers  in scoring at 10.5 points per game, and averages 5.4 rebounds. DeBerry is second at 10.0 and 5.3 rpg. DeBerry is shooting .467 from the field. Zamora leads the team in rebounds (8.0) and total blocks (45).

Mitchell is scoring 5.4 ppg and shooting 85.7 percent from the free throw line. Lewis (1.4) and Lehn (1.5) have helped in the rebounding during their playing time.

The Buccaneers men's game will tip off a half-hour following the women's game around 4 p.m.. Barry (12-15, 6-9) can finish as high as sixth, which will determine its opponent in the league tournament, which begins Wednesday on the road. Saint Leo (15-10, 9-6) beat the Bucs, 61-53, in Saint Leo on Jan. 25.

Senior guard Evan White will play his final game in Miami Shores. He leads the team in scoring (12.9 ppg). White has scored 784 career points in three years at Barry. He has made 142 three-pointers in his career.
