The East Central University Gospel Singers and students from ECU’s Sacred Music Program will present an Evening of Worship on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Ada.

Some of the selections by the ECU Gospel Singers will include Hallelujah Anyhow and Order My Steps, as well as other familiar praise songs.

The ECU Gospel Singers include the following students: Sarah Barnes, of Sulphur; Laci Jo Barringer, Pryor; Kendall Carter, Sulphur; Krysta Cassell, Bristow; Justin Cody,  Tecumseh; Steve Filkins, Oklahoma City; Zach Garcia, Ada; Kevin Gottman; Morgan Harper, Comanche; Chenaniah Heath, Poteau; Chloe Henry, Stratford; Joshua Hudson, Seminole; Naomi Long, McAlester; Tommy Long, Tecumseh; Kathleen Madden, Byars; Jordan Myers, Sapulpa; Kendra Parker,  Norman; Myranda Spencer, Henryetta; Shay Standingwater, Tulsa; Trevor Sutton, Tupelo; Ashley Tucker, Sasakwa; and Meleah Underwood, Stratford.

Students Revamp Worship Experience

Ecclesia, a Greek word meaning church, recently gained a whole new meaning for students at Adventist University of Health Sciences.

About a year and a half ago, a group of students joined forces with Campus Ministries and created a Friday evening worship called Sonset Cafe. It has since undergone a makeover as its name, location, and purpose recently changed.

In September, Sonset Cafe was renamed Ecclesia and the worship now meets at Florida Hospital SDA Church rather than on the University’s campus.

“A lot of students didn’t like the vibe of coming back to school on a Friday evening after they’ve been here all week,” said Alicia Wright, Ecclesia student leader. “Being back at the church has been a real blessing in that area.”

The new name also came with a new purpose: to focus on God, community, and restoration. Student leaders and Campus Ministries have also worked together to implement daily prayer times, small group Bible studies, outreach, and social activities.

All of the efforts have been part of a greater goal, to build a God-centered community of students.

“We really just want to meet each student’s needs spiritually regardless of what background or denomination they come from,” Alicia said.
