Second Annual Power of Maroon Day Scheduled for March 21

The second annual Power of Maroon Day will be held on Thursday, March 21 to show pride in Eastern Kentucky University and to celebrate the ties that bind the campus and local communities.

Festivities will continue throughout the day. The campus and local communities can enjoy refreshments, games, music, special speakers, and social media contests at various locations around campus and the city of Richmond. Throughout the community, many local merchants will show their Eastern pride by asking employees to wear maroon attire, donate items to be given away and/or display appropriate signage.

Last year's Power of Maroon Day was a tremendous success. The city-recognized holiday stems from a student project in a communication studies class taught by John Strada. The event has received the endorsement of EKU President Doug Whitlock and the university, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and Richmond Mayor Jim Barnes. Organizers of this year's Power of Maroon Day hope to involve the Madison County community even more so than last year's event.
