EWU-STA Extend Program

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University students, faculty and staff will get some relief from high gas prices this summer with news that Spokane Transit Authority will extend its Eagle Pass bus service through the summer as part of a pilot project.

Under the plan, students and employees can just swipe their EagleCard to ride any STA bus, including route 66 to the EWU campus, from June 16-Sep. 14. Only students registered for summer session and assessed the $6.50 transportation fee will be eligible to ride the bus by simply using their card. Employees who have received pay in the previous pay period will also be eligible to ride the bus.

Up until now, the bus program has only been offered during the school year. However, the hard working efforts of the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University (ASEWU) leadership team and support of the administration led to this pilot program.

This bus service is not available for students that are not registered and assessed the transportation fee for summer. Additionally, the routes operated for the summer to campus are the non-school weekdays and weekend routes, which can be found at spokanetransit.com.

The contract with STA is already finalized for the 2012-13 school year, and will begin Sept. 15.
