CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University and the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA) are very pleased to announce that Martine Duchatelet, PhD, has accepted the position of dean of the college and executive dean of EWU Spokane on the Riverpoint Campus. She will assume her position on June 1. Elizabeth Tipton (Murff), PhD, will serve as interim dean until that time, following the retirement of current interim Dean Niel Zimmerman on March 31.
Duchatelet comes to Eastern from Purdue University, Calumet (PUC), where she has served as dean of the School of Management since 2006. The School of Management at PUC is one of six schools in an institution of approximately 10,000 students. Duchatelet has led the School of Management through the process of acceptance for accreditation eligibility by AACSB.
Duchatelet brings extensive leadership experience, great energy and strong academic credentials to the dean's position. She has considerable experience working with communities, including supervising and managing small business development centers in Hammond, Indiana, and elsewhere in the northwest Indiana region. She has also worked to restructure and reinvigorate the PUC Executive MBA program as well as to add new programs to the College of Management.
"I very much look forward to joining the EWU academic affairs team and to working with my colleagues in the CBPA," said Duchatelet. "I was most impressed during my recent visit to campus by everyone's dedication to the enhancement of programs and prospects for the college's students and faculty.
"I was also touched by staff, faculty and advisory board members' willingness to make me feel welcome," said Duchatelet.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rex Fuller, who served as dean from 2006-10, stated, "I am thrilled to have an experienced dean succeed me in this role. I am confident that Dr. Duchatelet will quickly become comfortable in her new position and that she will become a well-known ambassador for EWU."
Prior to her work at PUC, Duchatelet was associate dean at the Andreas School of Business at Barry University in Florida. She also worked at a number of other institutions, including the University of Virginia, Columbia University and C.U.N.Y Hunter College. Duchatelet received her PhD in economics from Stanford University and holds BS and MS degrees in economics from Brussels University. She will be appointed as a full professor with tenure in the Department of Economics.
