New Student Dean

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University has named Amy Johnson, EdD, as the new dean of students and associate vice president for Student Life.

A native of Washington, Johnson is presently serving as the senior associate dean at the University of Southern California. She is also an associate professor of education in the Rossier School of Education at USC, where she has taught a number of courses, including management in higher education.

Johnson holds a BA in English and communication from the University of Puget Sound, an MS in education from the University of Pennsylvania and an EdD in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

Johnson has 14 years of management and professional experience in higher education as well as prior leadership positions with the Washington Health Care Authority. She has significant experience with student cultural and advocacy centers, service-learning/community engagement, student leadership, new student and college transition programs, assessment and student research, public relations/communications and strategic planning.

Vice President for Student Affairs Stacey Foster notes Johnson has a successful record of fostering learning and development through dynamic, student-centered departments, through academic partnerships, and in the classroom - reflecting national best practices and current issues in student development.

Johnson is excited to be returning to her home state. She will assume her new duties Aug. 13.
