Record Freshman Applicants

CHENEY, Wash. - As a result of the increasing demand for a high quality, affordable education, Eastern Washington University will close the application for admission for new freshman on May 15.

Transfer students and returning students may still apply for admission, and applications for all students remain available for winter and spring quarters.

"Eastern takes pride in creating opportunities for students to work with professors and gain valuable workplace skills," said EWU President Rodolfo Arévalo. "Closing the application in order to maintain small and efficient class sizes is just one way we show our commitment to maintaining academic excellence."

Arévalo pointed out freshmen applications at Eastern are up by 14 percent over figures from last year. This follows four consecutive years of record enrollment, with more than 12,000 students on campus to start the current academic year.

More students are turning to Eastern because of the outstanding quality and breadth of its academic programs at the Cheney and Riverpoint Campuses. EWU remains the best four-year value in Washington with the lowest cost of attendance and the smallest tuition increases of the four-year state institutions. Tuition at Eastern in the fall will be approximately $3,500 lower than Washington State University and more than $3,900 lower than the University of Washington.

"The university continues its commitment to access and excellence," noted Arévalo. "We have strengthened the relationships with our community college colleagues to provide better pathways for more students to achieve their dream of a college degree."
