CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University, along with Spokane Transit Authority (STA), would like to alert students, faculty and staff about some important bus route changes that will impact the EWU community.
Administrators point out there are several changes to the EWU and Cheney routes, which will take effect Sept. 18, just a few days before fall classes begin at Eastern.
Highlights include:
Increased frequency on Route 66, with 15 minute service in peak travel when EWU is in regular session.New local route in Cheney serves 1st, Betz and Washington Street seven days a week.Route 165 provides commuter express service from Cheney to Spokane.Increased frequency to and from EWU Spokane on the Riverpoint Campus.Last Route 66 departs the PUB headed for Spokane at 10:01p.m. (more than 40 minutes later than current route), and last outbound trip from Spokane leaves 15 minutes later than current route, at 10:35 p.m. This will help those taking night classes at Riverpoint and Cheney.Google Trip Planner is an excellent tool for students and faculty to use in planning their commutes. STA staff will be available to assist people at the Plaza and the Park and Ride lots. New schedules will be available by early September, and the new system map will be available a few days before the Sept. 18th change date.
During the school year, EWU faculty, staff and students ride free by swiping their EagleCard when boarding the bus on any Spokane Transit bus routes.
EWU encourages employees and students who commute to or from Spokane to use the bus to reduce the number of single-occupant vehicles on the roads each day. The partnership between Spokane Transit and EWU is designed to reduce additional parking lots, lower student living costs and meet the state-mandated commute trip reduction goals for reducing employee commuter traffic. The program is paid for by the university, EWU Parking Services and Associated Students of EWU.
Students and faculty are also encouraged to sign up for SMS text messaging where route specific information is pushed out on an as needed basis. Visit www.spokanetransit.com for updated information.
