CHENEY, Wash. - More than 480 students from Eastern Washington University's four colleges will present their scholarly abstracts and creative works at the 15th annual Student Research and Creative Works Symposium, May 15-16, on the Cheney campus.
The Symposium is the largest, campuswide academic event at EWU and showcases projects completed by undergraduate and graduate students after months of preparation with nearly 130 faculty mentors.
This type of forum gives participants the valuable opportunity to present their research or creative work - via oral/poster presentation, interactive exhibit or artistic display - in a formal, professional setting. It also gives students an excellent chance to interact, and it prepares them for graduate school and fine tunes their workforce skills.
The creative juices start flowing Tuesday evening:
Day 1, Creative Works:
Time: 4:30-9 p.m., Tuesday, May 15
Location: Fine Arts Complex
Details: Registration desk opens at 4:30 p.m. in the Art Building entrance; appetizers and dessert will be served in the foyer from 4:30-8 p.m.; presentation sessions will include art, film with music, music composition, film, theatre and creative writing.
Day 2, Research:
Oral, Poster and Interactive Research Presentations:
Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday, May 16
Location: Senior Hall
Details: Presentations will take place on all three floors of Senior Hall; registration desk opens at 7:30 a.m. in Senior Hall foyer; there will be information tables in the lobby providing information about Academic Service Learning, National Conference on Undergraduate Research, Graduate Studies, McNair Scholars Program, the Easterner, and EWU Libraries; sessions will feature presentations from a wide variety of academic disciplines across campus including psychology, biology, chemistry and biochemistry, sociology, philosophy, women and gender studies, engineering and design, physical therapy, occupational therapy, English, physical education/health/recreation and anthropology.
Luncheon:
Time: noon-1:30 p.m.
Location: Pence Union Building (PUB), MPR
Keynote Address: "Mentoring Through Research" by Peggy O'Connell, Department of Biology
